Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an HMO and a PPO health plan?
An HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) requires you to use a network of doctors and typically needs a referral to see a specialist. A PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) gives you more flexibility to see out-of-network providers without a referral, usually at a higher cost. Your best choice depends on your healthcare needs and how often you see specialists.
What is a deductible and how does it work?
A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket for healthcare services before your insurance begins to share the cost. For example, if your deductible is $1,500, you pay the first $1,500 of covered services yourself. After that, your plan typically covers a percentage of your costs through co-insurance.
When can I enroll in a health insurance plan?
You can enroll during the annual Open Enrollment Period, typically in the fall for coverage starting January 1. Outside of Open Enrollment, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you experience a life event such as losing other coverage, getting married, having a child, or moving. Call us and we'll help determine if you qualify.
What is a life insurance policy?
A life insurance policy is a contract between you and an insurance company. In exchange for regular premium payments, the insurer pays out a sum of money after you pass away to the people you choose as beneficiaries — usually children, a spouse, or other family members.
Can I apply for Medicare if I'm still working?
Yes. Medicare eligibility is based on age or qualifying health conditions — not employment status. If you are 65 or older, you can enroll during the Initial Enrollment Period which begins three months before your 65th birthday, includes your birth month, and ends three months after.
