What shapes your auto insurance quote
Every insurer weighs things a little differently, but these come up almost every time.
- Where you live
- Your ZIP code shapes local rates, theft and accident risk, and each state's minimum coverage rules.
- Your driving record
- Recent tickets, accidents and claims are among the biggest things insurers look at.
- The car itself
- Year, make, model and safety features all affect what a policy costs to write.
- How much you drive
- Daily commutes and annual mileage change how often you're on the road.
- Coverage you choose
- Higher limits and lower deductibles mean more protection, and usually a higher premium.

Auto insurance questions
Still unsure? An agent can answer questions about your situation.
How much auto coverage do I need?
Every state sets a legal minimum, but many drivers choose more. If you have a loan or lease, your lender will usually require collision and comprehensive. An agent can walk you through what fits your car and budget.
Will requesting quotes affect my credit?
Requesting quotes through our form does not run a hard credit check. Some insurers use a credit-based insurance score when they write a policy, which is a soft inquiry that does not affect your credit score.
Can I switch insurers in the middle of my policy?
Usually, yes. Most insurers let you cancel at any time and refund any unused premium. Set up your new policy first so you have no gap in coverage.
